Richard Sandford

Richard has a passion for the success of the energy transition and for supporting industry through this period of unprecedented challenge and change.

 

As a Chartered Engineer with nearly 40 years in the energy sector, including two decades leading global offshore wind businesses, Richard is now focusing on Non-Executive Director and Senior Advisory roles where he brings guidance, independent challenge, strategic judgement and deep sector expertise.

 

With an executive career including senior leadership and Board roles at RWE, bp and most recently as Chief Development Officer at JERA Nex bp, Richard has also served as a Board Director of subsidiary companies, as well as joint venture project companies. Across these roles, he's led large, complex organisations through strategic transformation, portfolio growth and optimisation, and major change programmes, and driven strong organisational performance.

Richard's overseen multi-GW offshore wind portfolios across Europe, APAC and the US, setting up organisations through major mergers and restructurings, and growing project portfolios from early development through construction and into operations, with a strong record in business development and operational excellence.

 

He's long contributed to industry leadership, as Chair of the World Forum Offshore Wind (WFO) and including previously co-chairing the UK Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) with the Secretary of State for Energy.
